Lets see if it flies. I have a few comments but likely can be easily addressed: Seems to be a bit of a muddle in the paper, at least in my mind reading the paper about 1880 versus 1990. In the TAR I think Jonathan got the melt to 1990 from using his uncorrected ie gu formula and regional AOGCM temps. Then the Appendix describes what he did for 1990 to 2100. The last sentence in the para 1 of Introduction is very confusing to me. I think you need more than one sentence here. Jonathan took the global temps I gave him (MAGICC) and did his own thing with them. So yes melt parameters were determined for a range of AOGCMS. Then he took simulated AOGCM temps from MAGICC to get other scenarios (only from 1990). Beginning of next para. 'For the MAGICC model ... melt from 1880..' But ..'integral from 1990 (t=0)..' ???? So part of what you have done is extend J's formula back to 1880? I think you must have done this but it's not clear. But note J used no adjustment pre 1990... actually need to check this. here it is - quote from appendix 'where g1990 is the sea-level rise from glaciers and ice caps up to 1990 calculated from AOGCM results without contraction of glacier area'. Have you contracted from 1880? 2. An extended TAR formula, first para '(in 1880 the initial year used in the TAR)' be careful, used where and how??? 3. Assessment of uncertainties first line typo 'mew' Re Acknowledgment. It might well be that I will have to acknowledge something like MARCOPOLI project I will ask. But could be added later. So I have my number of GSIC volume nominally 1961-1990 it is 27cm +/-? as yet. It's higher than I thought it would be. So maybe 50cm for the whole lot is not so far off. The icecaps gave much more per area than the glaciers - so subtracting the icecap area did not decrease the glacier volume much but icecap volume is bigger than glacier volume. See figure attached.
