Kevin,
I got this in the post also. I'll email David and check he's got this. I
expect David will have had something to do with this special issue. It'll
be most surprising if he hasn't. It isn't currently in my refs though !
Send refs when ready. Secretary working on these at the
moment. I can add in Jim's changes and yours. And also hurricane piece to 3.8.
I've gone through most of your comments on 3.2/3.3/3.8. I've sorted a few
(~20%) but left most for David and Dave to deal with. They are now highlighted
and I've elaborated on your comments.
Just need to merge the text - tomorrow. Will try and do this for the Figs now. I hope
Dave's revised ones come. They might have to be in a separate file. His last set were
enormous.
Cheers
Phil

I just received in the mail a paper:
Ishii, M., A. Shouji, S. Sugimoto, and T. Matsumoto. 2005 Objective analyses of SST and
marine meterological variables for the 20th Century using ICOADS and the Kobe
collection. Intl J. Climate, in press.
Are you aware of this? They have SST time seris for global ocean that ought to be
included. In reading it I was not very impressed. It also has NMAT, called NAT, SLP,
wind, cloud and dew point. We need to get this into the report.
I only have hard copy.

Kevin,
1. We'll be using Smith and Reynolds (2005) for surface T plots, so we'll get
global coverage for 1979-2004. This uses blended satellite SST estimates. We'll also
be using this for the 20th century, but the bias comes in when infilling gaps
in the early 20th century - the NCDC series being less cool (now reworded) !
I've yet to see this 2005 paper !
2. Marshall Shepard did send something. Far too much - Dave's word
was a tome.
3. The summary sections all need more work. Will highlight this and see
what David and Dave can do.
Cheers
Phil
