Thanks for the suggestion. I thought of him, but Kevin doesn't think much of him
as you say and said so to me. You can see what we come up with in Beijing - maybe
sooner if you foolishly agreed to review Ch 3 !

Chan? He has written about changes in TC activity in the west Pacific.
However, he has a pretty simplistic view of how to detect an influence of,
for example, local SSTs, on TCs (I had a very public (but still pleasant)
argument with him on this at a big climate change conference in Beijing
last year). So you (especially Kevin) may not like what he says. But I think
he is the obvious east Asia expert to have a crack at such a box anyway.
He might end up saying what Chris Landsea would probably say anyway.
