To this effect we attach (in rtf format) our position paper, drafted to provide some background to the theme of the workshop and to present some of the notions which we have been considering in relation to how danger is conceptualised with regards to climate change, from various perspectives. These have made us think about, and in some cases question, the implications for cross-disciplinary research and for policy-making, which we have attempted to summarise in a coherent format in the later sections of the paper. We hope these may stimulate thought and discussion at the workshop, based on your expertise. We welcome, of course, any comments or queries you may have. We are structuring the two-day workshop into various sections covering scientific interpretations and assessments of danger / risk in relation to climate change; perceptions of climate change; reporting of climate change by the media; implications of dangerous climate change for health; policy implications, including justice and equity considerations. We shall circulate the workshop agenda in early April. We look forward to welcoming you all to Norwich in June. Best wishes, Irene Lorenzoni and Prof. Nick Pidgeon Dr Irene Lorenzoni Centre for Environmental Risk (CER), School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia, Norwich NR4 7TJ, U.K. Tel: + 44 (0)1603 593173 E-mail: i.lorenzoni@uea.ac.uk Attachment Converted: "c:\eudora\attach\dangerous cc - position paper.rtf"
