Mann" subject: broadening of project, a bit? to: Scott Rutherford , Caspar Ammann , "Wahl, Eugene R" , Keith Briffa Dear Scott, Caspar, Gene: Keith Briffa has kindly offered to let us analyze (as we have w/ both RegEM and MBH98 method) some other forced simulations from their EU project. This includes a Hadley Center run and, potentially, the GKSS simulation used by von Storch et al(this is a bit more sensitive, and subject to further discussions). This should probably be treated quietly/confidentially for the time being, while we do the analyses. Since we're already implementing the pseudoproxy analyses w/ the NCAR simulation, I figure it should be easy to analyze the other simulatioins in parallel. It would ensure that our conclusiosn are far more robust, and allow us to look at the sensitivity of the conclusions to the particular simulation analyzed. So I'd like to suggest that we broaden our previously discussed project a bit (including Keith as a collaborator at whatever level he feels comfortable--at least for the time being, as provider of the data if nothing else!), analyzing at least these two other simulations, w/ Scott and me doing RegEM and Caspar and Gene doing the MBH98 method. This would result in a joint paper from which we could draw some very robust conclusions, and this could serve IPCC very well too. I realize that you are all involved in AGU and then holidays, so perhaps we should view early January as the time to get moving forward with these analyses. How does this sound to everyone? Scott, Gene/Caspar: you can contact Keith directly about how to go about getting the model simulation data... In the meantime, happy holidays to everyone, Mike ______________________________________________________________ Professor Michael E.
