You were beating your gums first and then no answer. I admit to working a bit slowly through Tom's voluminous thesis. One question I have. The Best Fit Means method iterates in a way that provides an "optimal" RCS chronology by one means or another. In so doing, bootstrap error estimates about the RCS chronology that uses BFM appear to be artificially tiny. Is it not possible to take the final RCS chronology that uses BFM and the original tree-ring series, factor out the RCS signal from each of the original series, and estimate uncertainty from these residual series? Does Tom do this? If so, I obviously haven't reached that point in the thesis.
