I enclose the minutes from the London meeting to remind you about the process. I have been in Nice for the EGU meeting and met a number of people interested and active in the project, including some of you. I also had a discussion lunch with key people for WP 4, which was helpful. For your information: we have reached an agreement with Rainer Zahn who co-ordinated the ICON IP bid, focussing on the controls on the Thermohaline Ocean Circulation. He has agreed to be a part of our initiative and will provide input from ICON into WP 3. That means there is no competing proposals as far as I know. When providing your input, please use the following template for each WP: 1. What are the overriding unsolved scientific questions? 2. What are the main selling points (relevance)? 3. What are the key science objectives and deliverables? 4. What sub WP needs to be defined? 5. Who are the must have partners. As soon as I receive input I will distribute it to the list fropm the London meeting to obtain feedback. I will not wait until I have input from all WP, but send it out WP by WP. BUT: Time is urgent, and we need your input by the first week of May. The original deadline was May 1. Meanwhile, the name: I have not received many proposals for better acronyms, and no fedback on the last try: CORONA-Co-ordinated Research On the NAtural climate variability of a warm earth. or EuroCORONA: European Co-ordinated Research On the NAtural climate variability of a warm earth. or IP-CORONA: Improved Predictability from Co-ordinated Research On the NAtural climate variability of a warm earth. Another try: IMPRINT- IMproved climate PRedicatibIlity from Research on Natural climaTe variability of warm periods. Please vote yes or no or give me other suggestions. We need to have the name ready soon.... Last news. The Carbo Oceans proposal will be funded, which means we have the opportunity to build synergies in terms of management and also in terms of the biogeochemistry aspects of our proposal.
