This is not a simple question to answer. We should bring this to the attention of the research meeting tomorrow - Friday. I am wondering about the possibilities for us, Tyndall, to do "display" or to have side events at SBSTA or COP session of UNFCCC ,or Johannesburg Summit. Those are very good chance to inform the climate change world of our presence and activity. Some of participants are from government, who however are usually attending the closed meetings, and most of others are advisors and observers from industry, think tank, consultant and research fields. For example, we can see the detailed information of registration for SBSTA 16 held next month in Bonn at WEB site as follows. [1]http://unfccc.int/sessions/sb16/special.html The side event would be reported at IISD site as shown below. [2]http://www.iisd.ca/climate/cop6/side/ I think you might ask about the further comments on the two events in your email. I apologize to send different matters. I hope we could consider them too some time. We thank Jim for his positive response to our first mail a few weeks ago and do hope that other RT2 researchers will consider co-operating in preparation of some attractive technical information sheets to profile the Rd.1 and Rd.2 projects and collaboration opportunities. The organisers expect at least 4000 visitors to attend the event. [3]http://www.sustainable-expo.com/index.asp?contentid=20 Please note that we are also taking the Display to the Environmental Technology and Management Exhibition (et2002) at the NEC Birmingham 21-23rd May ([4]www.et-expo.co.uk), where we have a high profile corner / crossroads slot near the entrance and opposite the DTI, AEA's subsidiary Accentus and English Partnerships (space cost ca. $B!W(B2900). I assume the huge DTI area will include JEMU - the new DTI/DEFRA Joint Environmental Markets Unit and the new DTI/DEFRA Climate Change Projects Office. This exhibition is actually hosting a "Climate Change - our Business" conference (6 sessions over 2 days of 'high profile' speakers) [5]http://www.et-expo.co.uk/page.cfm/Link=34 which also has a 'Climate Change pavilion (Tyndall is not involved in this, in fact we only found out about the event a few weeks ago). The Research Councils NERC/EPSRC are also presenting a display and hosting a free seminar with BRE "Making R&D work for you". I have a number of free tickets for the exhibition if anyone would like one - the Climate Change conference has a separate charge of $B!W(B50 for 2 sessions or $B!W(B145 for six. They are expecting 4000 to 5000 visitors to the exhibition with ca. 1000 attending the Climate Change Conference. All further ideas welcome. I think we should definately go along and set out our stall, and I would be happy to help supply some materials from the RP2 projects I am involved in. I was at a Renewable Power Association conference yesterday and mentioned that Tyndall might be attending. They are organising a conference as part of the Expo, and I have offered to give a talk as part of it (I've no idea whether they will take this up). Please let me know what kind of help you would like Best Wishes Jim. Elaine Jones wrote: Gents,Please see below for information (and attached details as available). Some of you may already be aware of the event, but I have just received info. this week and the websites are still being developed. The indications are that this event will bring together a large number of interesting (and potentially useful) organisations. As such I am considering buying (via the Business Liaison DTI budget) display space for the Tyndall stand. Since the display will focus particularly on the RT2 Theme (and hopefully by October there are likely to be some interesting Rd.1 results and Rd.2 collaborative opportunities which we could profile), I would very much appreciate any views/comments which you may have on the event and our participation. Sustainable Energy Expo and Energy Efficiency Expo are running alongside one another on October 22nd-24th 2002 at Olympia 2. In addition, The Renewable Power Association (RPA) has joined forces with Sustainable Energy, and the Energy Systems Trade Association (ESTA) are nesting their autumn London event within the Energy Efficiency Expo. The RPA will hold a two-day conference called "Delivering Renewable Power" ESTA will host a special "ESTA zone" on the exhibition floor and are holding a one-day conference at the event. Other conference streams under development include half-day sessions from British BioGen and PV-UK aimed at local authorities, housing associations and the like. Co-Sponsored by: [21]Institute of Energy [22]Combined Heat and Power Association [23]PV-UK [24]British Biogen [25]The Solar Trade Association [26]Major Energy Users' Council [27]Association of Electricity Producers (and supported by the CT and EST)They already have 40 exhibitor reservations and are expecting ca. 120+. Those to date (site given in attached) include BP-Solar, Wavegen, Alstom Power, United Utilities, BG, B Energy, DTI Sustainable Energies Prog., Co-op Bank The 'Climate Change' flag is widely attractive and experience to date shows that our stand draws much attention. Discussions with stand visitors clearly affords a good opportunity for new contacts and networking so I would also encourage you to consider participating on & off, if you plan to attend.
